What is Gamat ?
Out of 2,000 species of sea cucumbers, or holothurians from all over the world, only 30 species are found in Malaysian seas. Out of that 30 species, only Stichopus variegatus, Sticophus chloronatus, Sticophus badionatus and Sticophus horrens are suitable for heavy commercialized use. The "Golden Gamat" or Sticophus sp are found to be on the very verge of extinction and, because of that researchers all over Malaysia are practically researching for the use of these rare species of sea cucumbers. Prof. Dr. Ridwan Hashim of National University of Malaysia (UKM), one of the leading scientists in sea cucumber research stated that, sea cucumbers contain Cell Growth Factor. The factor would stimulate new cell regeneration, and at the fastest rate, it is so efficient in managing wounds without any known side effects. Sea cucumbers contain anti-oxidants, and high vitamin E for the youthful appearance. In cosmetic products, sea cucumber extracts are blended perfectly to optimum use. The bio-active anti-oxidants, prevents radical molecules such as radical hydroxyl and chlorine to bind with other reactive molecules Among others, eicosanoids property of gamat is also found in the sea cucumber extract. Eicosanoids are powerful cell regulators that help maintain virtually all body functions including the brain, the heart and the immune system. 100gm of gamat's coelom extract, 44% are proteins extract, 4% are carbohydrates and 1.5% is lipids or fats, and the rest are micro salts. Fatty acids such as EPA (Omega Eikosapentanoic acid) and DHA (Omega decosahexanoic acid) are abundant in sea cucumber extracts. Through breakthrough in biotechnology, finally the first sea cucumber based products is available for the whole world.
